Health and Leisure Group Open Day Friday, 23rd March 2007 Opened by Lord Provost John Reynolds Alcohol Support Ltd is a specialist charity which offers integrated support and rehabilitation throughout Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire. The Health and Leisure Group is for people who formerly had an alcohol problem and who are engaged in healthy and leisurely activities in preference to resuming their previous lifestyle. Sandy Wallace, the Health and Leisure Group Co-ordinator says “We are beginning to see measurable evidence to confirm our view that problem drinkers can be supported to maintain their sobriety by a programme of social and healthy leisure activities which are in themselves healthy, educational and constructive. As a result of the expansion of this service, clients will in future be offered regular social outings, cooking classes and educational visits with longer day trips each month and the ongoing offer of gym membership. In the coming months, we also hope to move into the field of identifying employment opportunities and matching clients to potential employers, with a package of support. To launch this expanded service an Open Day will be held where referring bodies, funders and clients can see first hand the impact this group has had on clients and discuss our plans for the future.
