Deferment and Offenders Services: Drink Drive Rehabilitation Scheme The Scheme is aimed at people who have been charged with an offence related to alcohol and driving. It aims to provide an opportunity for participants to examine the circumstances that led to the drink drive offence and acquire new skills to reduce the risk of re-offending. |

Course Contents The course consists of 4 sessions totalling 16 hours. > Alcohol Awareness - how it affects the body, > How the strength of drinks is measured > Consequences of problem drinking/reasons for drinking > Alcohol, driving and the related legislation.
The sessions involve discussions, group and individual exercises, handouts, DVDs, and presentations from outside speakers. 20% of our courses can be held at weekends. These usually run in Inverness for ease of travel for those in and around the area.

What are the Benefits of Attending?
> Participants who successfully complete the course will be eligible for a reduction of up to 25% of the disqualification period (decided by the court) > Risk of re-offending is reduced as participants become more aware of alcohol related issues. > Safe and supportive environment to discuss alcohol-related issues. > Access to ongoing free counselling service, if required.

Who Can Attend the Scheme?
Participants can either be:
For reduction in ban, participants must be
referred by the Sheriff at the time of sentencing.
To reduce re-offending, referrals may also be
received from social work, job centres or self refer.
Participants must be over 17 years of age. |

How Much Does it Cost?
> £155 for people in full-time employment. Booking fee of £50 to be paid two weeks before course. (non refundable)

to those who are on Booking fee of £20 to be paid two weeks before course. (non refundable) Payments can be made by instalments if participants wish, however payment must be received in full, by cash or cheque, prior to or on the first session.

Background In January 2002, we were appointed by the Department for Transport as a provider for the Drink Drive Rehabilitation Scheme. Statistics collated by the Department for Transport show that participants who have completed the course are 2-3 times less likely to re-offend as drivers become more aware of alcohol related issues

There’s no safe limitLegally, the alcohol limit for drinking and driving is 80mg in 100ml of blood. However this cannot be translated easily into number of drinks – how quickly you reach the limit depends on a range of factors such as:
Even a small amount of alcohol will affect your reactions and judgement, making you more likely to be involved in an accident. The only safe option is not to drink at all if you’re driving. You can't calculate your alcohol units accurately. Drink - then Don't Drive!!
