The Amethyst Women’s Group was set up in 2004. The purpose of the group is to allow women who have experienced alcohol and associated
problems at some point in their lives, a chance to meet in a supportive environment. The activities focus on women’s health, building self-confidence, learning new skills and going out and about.
We are always looking for funding so that the group can continue. During the week of the 17th July 2006, Amethyst had the use of the Aberdeen City
Council Charities shop on George Street. The shop was run by volunteers from Albyn House staff, residents and ex residents. It was a very tiring and busy week but it was successful due to the big support of the ex-residents who meet weekly at the coffee club.
We raised £720.90 and we are going to use part of the money raised to have our new leaflet about Amethyst printed professionally. We will then be able to distribute
these to GP surgeries etc to see if this will increase the amount of women currently attending the group.
The rest of the money will go into the bank account to contribute to the running cost of the group. Amethyst group members are now focusing on the next fund raising
event which we hope will be a car boot sale but we will keep you posted on when this will be.
