Physical
  • Nausea

  • Sleep Disturbance

  • Fits

  • Palpitations and Rapid Pulse

  • Sweatiness

  • Appetite Disturbance

  • Re-assure and give information to person and to family.

  • Get medication if there is a risk of fits or heart problems.

  • Ensure the person is kept clean and comfortable for a few days.

  • Ensure light nutritious food is available

  • Make plans to stay at home for a few days.

  • Drink lots of sweet drinks.

  • Rest - take gentle exercise when feel up to it.

  • Pamper yourself.

  • Ask for support and encouragement.

  • Buy in stock of nutritious food and vitamins.

  • Take any medication

Psychological
  • Anxiety and panic

  • Irritability

  • Restlessness

  • Depression

  • Listlessness

  • Tension

  • Confusion

  • Loneliness

  • Craving

  • Re-assure.

  • Get medication to cope with severe disturbance.

  • Be patient and tolerant

  • Ensure the patient has company as much as possible.

  • Make few demands.

  • Ask for support.

  • Find alternative ways of relaxing - hot baths, music etc.

  • If sleep is impossible, get up and do something else.

  • Accept that the first few days will be unpleasant but that things will improve.
