History: Albyn House

Albyn House opened in September 1983 as an innovative response to habitual drunkenness offending.  It aimed to divert alcohol-related offenders from the Criminal Justice system.

The three aims of Albyn House are to:

  • decriminalise the drunk and incapable offence.

  • provide a sobering up facility in a more humane environment.

  • rehabilitate the drunkenness offender.

Over the years, Albyn House continually worked to improve and develop its service.
