The Alcohol Advisory and Counselling Service (AACS) was established in 1971 by Margaret Byers, a nurse at Accident and Emergency at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. She was concerned about the lack of aftercare for the high number of patients attending with alcohol-related problems. Counselling started from a room at Denburn Health Centre, but as the agency grew, it moved to premises in Union Street then to its present location at 62 Dee Street. On 24th October 2006 it merged with Alcohol Support Ltd (formerly Albyn House Association Ltd). The newly merged organisation aims to provide choice and a range of support services for anyone with an alcohol problem, and to those affected by someone else's problems.
